An investigation has been launched into an early morning fire in a three-storey apartment building in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.
Roughly 20 people were forced out.
The Montreal fire department says the building on De Rouen, corner of Dézéry, didn't have smoke alarms.
No one was hurt, but firefighters brought down a man by ladder after being stuck one of the upper floors.
Damage is said to be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The Red Cross helped 10 people find other accomodations.
