The small lower Laurentian community of Saint-Colomban has declared a state of emergency following torrential rain overnight.

60 millimetres of rain fell during the day and through last night.

In a statement on it's website the city says it expects the state of emergancy to remain in place for the next 48 hours.

A number of streams have overflowed their bans flooding and washing out several roads.

Some neighborhoods have been left isolated by the floodwaters and city officals say they are working to limit the damage and reopen the roads.
