Young driver who injured three teens in TMR now out of prison

Laurent Raymond, the young driver who pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing injury to three of his passengers in Town of Mount Royal in 2010, is now out of prison.

The then-18-year-old spent part of an evening at a bar in July of 2010 before slamming into a tree at high speed, causing serious injury to his three passengers, Claudia Di Iorio, Evelyn Methot and Justine Rozon — all aged 16 at the time.

He was also driving with a probationary licence.

Raymond was sentenced to three years in prison for his crime, but he's being released after only one, with conditions. He'll be doing community work for the next three months, and has plans to enrol in business administration at UQAM after that.

The accident led the victims' fathers to create Cool Taxi, the pre-paid taxi chit system parents can buy for their teens.
