Officials said no Champlain bridge expropriations: MP

The mayor of Verdun is reported saying he knew for a while that some homes would be expropriated due to the construction of the new Champlain bridge.

According to La Presse, Jean-François Parenteau says he'll meet residents on May street affected by construction.

16 Verdun homes will have to come down.

South shore MP Hoang Mai says officials said a year ago that no homes would be touched.

"We first asked the question to Transport Canada whether or not there were gonna be evictions more than ayear ago when they were holding public meeting, going out there to give more information and we know right now there is a problem in terms of transparency", added Mai.

Seems homeowners were only told Wednesday about the government's exproipriation plans.

The homes are being expriopriated to make way for a wider autoroute 15 between the new span and the Atwater exit toward downtown.
