A Loto 6/49 winner who landed a $10-million jackpot a number of years ago says Revenue Quebec is trying to ruin his life.
Howard Pashlin of Dollard says soon after his big win in 1999, he was warned by his accountant and lawyers that he'd be closely monitored by the taxman for the rest of his life.
After one encounter with Revenue Quebec a couple of years ago, Pashlin acknowledged that he owed $100,000 and made arrangements to pay.
Now Revenue Quebec is going after him for nearly a million dollars and Pashlin has insisted to CJAD that he does not owe that amount.
He says the tax office mistakenly classified as revenue third-party cheques that moved through his bank account between 2008 and 2010 - money that was returned to an acquaintance as soon as the cheques cleared.
Pashlin says he has informed Revenue Quebec that he has affidavits from all parties involved but the auditors seem unwilling to take them into account.
He is now considering litigation.
