Arson squad investigate fire after fire department found basement door open

The investigation into an early morning fire Thursday has been handed over to the Montreal police arson squad.

The fire broke out in the basement of a three story residential building in the Côte St. Paul district.

Firefighters suspected arson because they discovered the basement door had been left opened.

Two families were forced out of their homes because of the fire on De L'Église between Eadie and Laurendeau.

No one was hurt.
