Bill Wong was a local restaurateur who opened the city's very first Chinese buffet restaurant, according to friends and family.
Wong passed away last week, he was 93.
His first restaurant opened on Queen Mary Road back in the 50's.
“He wanted his customers to be non-Chinese, ordinary Canadians who might not want to go all the way to Chinatown for dinner,” explained daughter and journalist Jan Wong to our colleagues at CTV.
Wong opened the iconic restaurant "Bill Wong's on Decarie in 1962. The restaurant closed down seven years ago - but customers still walk into the building looking for the buffet they grew to know so well.
