UPDATE: Hydro making progress in restoring power after big storm

Hydro Quebec crews were out in force overnight after the band of rainstorms that swept through southern Quebec yesterday led to numerous small power failures.

At the height of the failures last evening, 50,000 Hydro Quebec customers on the island of Montreal were without electricity. Province-wide, the figure was 100,000.

As of noon Wednesday, those numbers are down to around 4,000 on the island of Montreal, and 15,000 across the province.

The West Island was one of the areas worst hit by the storm. The city of Kirkland accounts for 197 of the Hydro-Quebec customers still in the dark at of 12 p.m.

Hydro-Quebec says crews are out trying to resolve the problem as soon as possible.

You can call Hydro's emergency line at 1-800-790-2424 to find out when power is expected to be back at your address.

Out in force my butt. I lost power at 10pm last night. Did not hear one truck in the neighborhood untiL that the drivers of that truck took two smoke break in the time I walked my dog. I told the workers where the transformer blew and they ignored me.

I guess I needed to go through union paperwork three weeks in advance to talk to them.

This is the fourth time in less than a year that I get to throw out the entire contents of ny fridge. Hundreds of dollars of cheese and milk lost.
