My son and I were driving by that intersection this morning seconds after that cyclist was hit. We could see him on the ground and the people around him seemed stunned.
That intersection is so dangerous for cyclists and pedestrians alike. Despite the bike path which is right there and should give cyclists some protection, crossing ST-Jean boul. there is taking a huge risk every time. The light is long and drivers lose patience and often do not give cyclists the right away as the light changes. PLEASE shed a light on this dangerous intersection. It is only a matter of time before someone gets killed there. My son uses that bike path every day to go to work, he was shaken this morning at the sight of that man laying on the ground.

It is a shame that people are getting hurt while riding bicycles, but it is not always the fault of the driver of the vehicles. If others actually started putting the blame on the cyclists as well then the laws might actually hold up. Most of the riders of bikes DO NOT STOP at stop signs like they are supposed to. We all share this road equally and are all responsible for complying to the rules of the road. I see drivers and cyclist in my area ( two mountains ) who blow the stops signs. No one wants to take responsibilities or blame . Both are at fault and should both be blamed. I don't have sympathy ( and you can tell me I am wrong ) for something you know you should do but don't and cause an accident and harm to either yourself or someone else, well you made that decision and now deal with the consequence .

A north-south bicycle lane extending over highway 40 is badly needed in the west island. Cyclists need their own designated space on these busy roads so they can travel safely travel between the north and the south of the west island.
