The Plateau Mont-Royal borough has come up with a new twist on the traditional fire hydrant.
On Monday, the borough formally unveiled a fire hydrant that also doubles as a water fountain. For the moment, there are two of the distinctive-looking hydrants in the borough: at the corner of St. Laurent and Mont-Royal, and the corner of De Brébeuf and Mont-Royal.
The "Borneo system" is part of an initiative created by the borough, in collaboration with the city's water department.
"I am pleased that the Plateau is a test site for local initiatives that foster creativity and improve quality of life," borough mayor Luc Ferrandez said in a statement. "Thanks to Borneo project, passersby can take a fun break to drink or cool off."
The water stream emanating from the hydrants can also turn into mist.
