The day that workers at the Electrolux plant in north shore L'Assomption had been dreading for nearly four years — is finally here.
Today is the last day on the job for hundreds of workers at the plant. The last day was supposed to be Friday, but reports suggest the employees were notified about the early closure this afternoon.
Company spokeswoman Eloise Hale told CJAD in an e-mail that "Operations have been winding down very efficiently throughout the week and most teams have now left. Going forward, we will continue to have a small team of engineers there supporting North American cooking R&D and a small team managing our facility and shipping existing inventory."
She added that the company thanks its employees for their dedication and professionalism.
A total of 1300 employees are losing their jobs. They learned of the closure back in December of 2010.
