One person was killed and 2 others were injured in a crash between Charlemagne and Lachenaie just east of Montreal Sunday afternoon.
A fuel tanker truck collided with a mini-van on the Highway 640 ramp to the 40.
The fuel truck exploded causing massive flames that produced thick smoke clouds which could be seen over 15 KMs away. The heat of the blaze damaged the roadway below and melted highway signs above.
The driver of the truck was killed and the driver and passenger of the mini-van suffered minor injuries.
Authorities had closed Highway 640 and 40 which caused severe traffic delays. Highway 40 reopened at 7:10 P.M. While the 640 on ramp to the 40 remains closed and Transport Quebec has no timeline as to when it will be reopened.
The Sûreté du Québec said the exact cause of the explosion is still not known.
