A fire that destroyed four cars and damaged two garages in Laval is being investigated by police.

Early Saturday residents on Sinclair St. were woken up by a loud bang. Neighbours say they could see the flames from across the street. Some ran over and began banging on doors.

One set of homeowners was on vacation, but their young children were staying at home with their grandparents.

The flames spread to the connecting driveway, destroying four cars and causing damage to both garages.

Police could not say exactly what caused the fire but it is considered arson.

None of the residents suffered injuries but one man in his forties was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.

The man who is known to police was living in the downstairs apartment.

Laval police would not say how they know the man, but said he was arrested in connection to outstanding warrants.

Right now police think the home was likely targeted, and the man will be questioned.
