Beaconsfield surprised by beach suggestion

Beaconsfield officials say it's news to them that the waterfront in their city's Memorial Park is being considered as a candidate for a new public beach.

The director general has told The Gazette that there has been no analysis of the idea and no strategy for creating the swimming spot.

He adds that Beaconsfield residents have not been consulted about whether they want a beach for swimming in their midst.

The idea was floated last week when City of Montreal officials and the environmental group CRE-Montreal got together to talk about public access to the river. Two spots were mentioned a possibilities for swimming sites: Memorial Park and Parc de la Promenade-Bellerive in the east end.
