Unions against pension reform protest prior to Quebec games

The opening ceremonies of the 49th Quebec games are being held tonight in Longieuil.

Unions fighting government pension reform have been holding a demonstration, but they say they won't disrupt the games.

They've been handing out water bottles and trying to gather support for their cause.

"The government is responsible for what is going on right now... some of the mayors are responsible, so we're gonna go after them. At the same time, we saw since two days that many
mayors do not so agree with mayor Labeaume, mayor Coderre... there's pressure out there", said union spokesman Marc Ranger in an interview with CTV News.

Among other things, mayor Coderre and Quebec City counterpart Regis Labeame support the planned pension changes.

The ceremonies get underway at 8pm.

Defined benefit pension plans must end plain and simple. Let's remember President Regan fired all the air traffic controllers who are far more important and educated than most government employees so take it or take a hike! This is so important that maybe let the population vote on it so we do not put all the onus on the mayors!
