Service returning after train collision in eastern Ontario

Via Rail train service is "gradually resuming'' today on the Toronto to Montreal and Toronto to Ottawa routes, after a shutdown Friday.

Via spokeswoman Mylene Belanger says an early-morning departure from Toronto to Montreal was delayed for nearly three hours, but passengers are now on the move.

Service was shut down Friday after a collision between a Via train and a CN freight train east of Kingston, Ont.

Via says the freight train struck the passenger train's locomotive and a few cars about seven kilometres from Gananoque, Ont.

It says the train was travelling from Ottawa to Toronto with about 300 people on board. One passenger reported a minor injury.

Buses replaced train service on the two routes for the rest of Friday.
