Big drop in Quebec forest fires for July

It seems safety reminders about forest fires in Quebec have worked.

SOFEU, the province's forest protection society, says July was one of the lightest forest-fire fighting months in years.

It reports 60 such fires last month.

The figure, on average, was roughly a hundred for the month in the last decade.

The society adds just over 20 hectares of land was destroyed as opposed to the average of some 82-hundred hectares.

The society also says the number of fires caused by humans has diminished and that Mother Nature has also co-operated.
