Longueuil man arrested after tying up ex-wife

A 49-year-old man has been arrested after he tied up his ex-wife inside an apartment on Du Rousillon St. in Longueuil.

Ghislain Vallières of the Longueuil police department said the man phoned police around 7:00 P.M. from the Jacques Cartier Bridge.

Vallières said the man told the operator what he had done to his wife, and that he was armed with a gun.

Police from Longueuil and the Sûreté du Québec spent about 45-minutes in a standoff talking with the man.

After disarming him, he was arrested and transported to a hospital where he will undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

The woman was unharmed and also taken to hospital to be treated for shock.
