Hydro Quebec is asking the Quebec Energy Board for yet another rate increase — this time, a 3.9 per cent increase which would take effect in April of 2015.
The utility got a 4.3 per cent increase which took effect this April — when they had originally demanded a 5.8 per cent increase from the Board.
Hydro says more than half of the increase was requested because of new acquisitions, namely wind turbines.
If the increase is approved, it would equal about $2.02 per month for an apartment, $5.14 for a small home, and $9.46 for a large home.
The utility maintains its rates are the lowest in the country, and one of the lowest in North America.
Public hearings will take place to allow discussion on the issue. The Energy Board will rule at the beginning of 2015.
