UPDATE: Major power outage briefly plunges tens of thousands into darkness

Most of the 193,000 Quebecers who lost power just after noon today have their power back.

By 1 o'clock, 75,000 people on Montreal island had lost power, along with 36,000 in Laval, 39,000 up north, and 41,000 on the south shore. But by 1:45 p.m., the provincewide number was cut to about 15,000.

Hydro-Quebec suggests something affected their distribution network, causing the mass power outage.

They're still looking into the exact cause, but they say they've managed to restore power to most of those who lost it — and those who are still in the dark will have their power back shortly.

And they want an increase? Perfectly nice summer day and the power goes off?! Don't spit on the sidewalk, the power might go out!

Something affected their power distribution network they say.

    What a bunch of clowns.

These are the same people who want to increase our rates again.

Just how can they justify another rate increase after the last one.

Go do your home work. I am sure the increase is not required.

Raise your rates to the americans instead of the super low rates they have now.
