Lockout hits ArcelorMittal mining

ArcelorMittal, world’s leading steel and mining company, declared a lockout Wednesday night at its plant in Contrecoeur West.

About 300 union members are affected.

The main point of disagreement with the United Steelworkers is the pension plan.

The employer wants to introduce a system of defined contribution pension, which the union feels is less beneficial for new employees.
