A 16-year-old boy was seriously injured in Saint-Hubert Friday night after being struck by a van while riding his skateboard.

According to Longueuil police spokesperson Tommy Lacroix, the teenager was travelling in the opposite direction of traffic on Cousineau Blvd. off Highway 30 at about 10:20 p.m. at the time of the collision.

The driver of the truck saw the boy at the last second and could not avoid hitting him. The man, who was alone in his vehicle, immediately stopped to rescue the victim.

The teen was thrown against a lamp post on impact. He was taken to hospital where his condition was deemed critical but stable.

An investigation was opened by the Longueuil police to determine the cause of the collision.

Alcohol was not involved, but darkness at the time of impact may have been a factor.
