Farm engulfed in flames, 300 calves killed

Fire destroyed a calf farm in Saint-Hugues in the Monteregie.

The blaze started in the building on Rang Bourgchemin West around 11: 30 pm, and flames quickly spread.

Thirty firefighters from four municipalities with tankers were brought in, but the damage was done, 300 animals killed, the facility left in ruins.

No word on a cause.

Saint-Hugues is almost 90 kilometres east of Montreal.

    All very preventable if there had been a sprinkler system installed.
