Officers rescue baby left unattended in parked car at Galeries d'Anjou

Mother fined $60; could face criminal charges

Montreal police today had to deal with another case of a young child left alone in a hot car in a mall parking lot.

They say around 11:15 this morning, a patrol officer found a young child, about a year old, sitting in the back seat of a car in the parking lot at Galeries D'Anjou.

The officer broke the car's window to rescue the child.

The child's mother appeared shortly afterward. She was given a $60 ticket and left the scene with her child, but police suggest she could also face criminal charges.

Wtf is wrong with people? And the system? $60.00???? Are you kidding? Is that how much a child's life is worth? Hope she gets charged with attempted murder because that's exactly what she tried to do. Moron.

320 dollars for checking the time on a cellphone while at a stop sign and 60 dollars for leaving a baby in an oven. Quebec logic

    Another stupid mother!!
Maybe she figured if she did get caught, a $60 fine was worth it. Such a ridiculous fine.
Child abuse, child endangerment and possible murder ( thank goodness for those police officers ).
What will it take for these totally irresponsible parents ( ? ) to understand the gravity of leaving a child alone....................period.
    It makes me furious.

The same thing happened in Lasalle at Walmart on the weekend and I called the police. They came 25 minutes later. The parents got to the car 10 seconds before they came. So they got away with it! I couldn't believe they took that long to get there!!! I was furious!!!!

Some people don't deserve to have children.

Let's face it, leaving a child in a hot car is a CRIME. it's about time that criminal charges are being "considered". What about the fines being increased as well! Especially, not letting the parent leave with her child would also be a greater deterent, I think. The SPCA removes animals from homes for less than attempted murder. Do we think so little of a human life that the punishment does NOT match the crime?

I received a parking ticket in downtown Montreal yesterday for parking where "there was a no parking sign," even though there was no such sign visible anywhere. The ticket is $60

As a previous commenter wrote, leaving a baby in a hot car isn't a crime apart from the basic rule of leaving kids unattended in a car to which warrants a ticket.

The fact of the matter is related to this, the child did not die. Therefore you can't charge the mother with anything. If the child did die or was injured then you can actually do something... but then after the fact, the child is already dead.

    The law is an ass.

The fine needs to be increased 10 fold. And it needs to be accompanied with 9 demerit points for putting a child's life in danger. That would get people educated on the danger of leaving helpless children in cars.

@Claude B 10 fold ? Yes. 600 bucks for first offense with mandatory jail for 30 days.
Yes, JAIL. Plus strip them of their right-to-drive for 1 year.

Children, the elderly, pets .... It is a more serious crime that people realize.

How stupid are these people ?????

I can picture that idiot parent calling the insurance company the next morning and filing a claim for broken windows.
