Quebec religious order to pay out $20M to young sex abuse victims

Young victims of members of a Quebec religious order will receive $20 million in damage as a result of the sexual abuse they suffered.

They were students at the St-Alphonse seminary outside Quebec City from 1960 and 1987. The school is run by the Redemptorist Order.

Last month, Quebec Superior Court ordered the group to pay at least $75,000 in damages to each of the victims.

The two parties signed an agreement yesterday which carried the $20 million figure.
