West Island Community Centre closing

After 30 years in operation, there are reports the West Island Jewish Community Centre is closing down at the end of October.

Management says the increase in competition and the decline in its membership have made it difficult to stay in business.

The government subsidized daycare will remain open.

It's unfortunate that the West Island does not have another facility geared to the members current at the Y.
Instead of discussing this issue with the members, the general feeling is that a door has been slammed in our faces.
Perhaps some initiative here on the part of the Y to consult current members to promote more memberships or a meeting of the administration and the members should take place. To say that the members are disappointed is truly an understatement. It is our Y too.
