Van Gogh to be featured at Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in the fall

Van Gogh, Gauguin, Kandinsky and Andy Warhol will be among the artistic legends under the spotlight in shows at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts this fall.

"From Van Gogh to Kandinsky: Impressionism to Expressionism 1900-1914'' begins on Oct. 11 and will run until Jan. 25, 2015.

The Canadian exclusive will feature more than 100 paintings and an equal number of drawings and prints by some of the greatest avant-garde figures of the time and provides a look at major artistic developments in France and Germany leading up to the First World War and beyond.

The 100th anniversary of the First World War will also be marked in ``The Patriotism of Death: Propaganda Posters from World War One,'' which starts on Nov. 11 and runs to Feb. 8, 2015, the museum said in a statement Friday.

Presented in connection with ``From Van Gogh to Kandinsky,'' the 20 large sheets were selected from the McGill University Library and show the approaches of Canada, France, Germany, the United States and the United Kingdom to get people to enlist, raise funds and support the war effort.

"Warhol Mania: A Brand New Look At His Advertising Posters and Magazine Illustrations'' opens on Nov. 5 and continues to March 15, 2015.

The exhibition brings together 50 posters and almost 1,000 illustrations from the collection of art historian Paul Marechal and aims to reveal another aspect of Warhol's graphic design work.
