Over 5,500 petition for closure of Monteregie fur farm

Images published this week showing thousands of mink and about 100 foxes being kept in deplorable conditions on a mink farm in the Monteregie have sparked an online petition.

By late Saturday evening over 5,500 people had signed the online petition calling on Minister of Forests, Wildlife and Parks Laurent Lessard to close the farm.

The petition states those who have signed are tired of the mistreatment of animals in Quebec, and many countries around the world prohibit raising animals for fur, but Quebec producers do not even need a permit to do so in most cases.

Earlier this week a spokesperson with the ministry said the animals are "unfortunately bred for the furring industry and all urgent issues at the farm have been dealt with."

The petition was started at petitions24.net by a Lachine woman on Thursday.

They should be petitioning the minister change the law and make fur farming illegal or more humain.
I find closing down 1 fur farm very short sighted in a province where animal abuse is so prevalent that it has become part of our identity.
Why close 1 fur farm when you can close them all?
