Rabies vaccination program underway

For the eighth consecutive year, Quebec officials are vaccinating wild animals against rabies.

They began Monday in the Eastern Townships, spreading oral tablets by air throughout the province including here in Montreal, as well as the Monteregie, targeting skunks, raccoons and foxes.

Since 2009, no cases of rabies in raccoons have been found in Quebec.

However, some were reported near the American border, so wildlife officials aren't taking any chances
