Missing teenager found dead in Lachine Canal

Yong Xin Zhang, 17, had been missing since Sunday

Montreal police say the body pulled form the Lachine Canal this morning is that of Yong Xin Zhang, a 17-year-old boy who went missing Sunday evening in Old Montreal.

He had been separated from his mother while on a visit to Notre Dame Basilica at around 8 p.m. that evening, and hadn't been seen since.

Police say the teenager wasn't known to get into trouble or to hang out with a bad crowd. They also said it was unlike him to disappear without letting his family know where he was.

They add it does not appear he was the victim of violence.
