Sunwing flight to Cuba turned back to Toronto after disruption

Police say two women are in custody after a Sunwing flight bound for Cuba was forced to turn back to Toronto's Pearson International Airport.

Regional police responded to the flight at around 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police say the passengers were reportedly acting disruptive and had ``made comments that were concerning to passengers and also the pilot.'' Police did not give additional details.

The plane was escorted by two military fighter jets dispatched by the North American Aerospace Defence Command back to Pearson and the two women were taken into custody.

No charges have been filed and police say the investigation is ongoing.

The only way to stop this from occurring again is to ensure that anyone who disrupts flights in this manner actually suffer some consequences.

What would be appropriate is financial consequences.

Start with full reimbursement of all direct and indirect costs to the airline for the return.

Then cover any additional expenses for missed flights, etc. incurred by the airline.

THEN ensure that every passenger is compensated for THEIR expenses - flights, vacation, lost wages, hotels, etc.

True justice would see the guilty also pay all legal costs PLUS a punitive cost of double the above to the victims.

If this means the guilty get to spend the rrest of their lives as indentured slaves, so be it. Justice must prevail and the innocent must suffer no loss whatsoever!

It seems that airline companies over react to comments and I don't know what disruptive means in this case and no charges have been filed so far. On going investigation for what charges ??? Maybe the two women wanted more champagne.

I think that scrambling 2 CF 18's was a little much. Having said that, this is happening all too often lately and we never hear about the outcomes. I think that the two idiots should pay all extra incurred expenses. Returning and landing at another airport, all costs of delays for the travelers, plus fines and jail time. 2 brain dead idiots decided to get drunk, smoke, get into a fight and make threats. Well then pay!!!!!
