Coroners recommend retroactivity on pool regs

The coroners who investigated the drowning deaths of three toddlers say Quebec's backyard swimming pool regulations should be made retroactive.

When the laws were toughened up in 2010, existing pools were given exemptions and their owners did not have to make any safety changes.

The coroners say the pools involved in the three drownings fell into that category.

They recommend that the exemptions be eliminated and all backyard pools in the province be subject to the new rules.
