More raises for top MTC managers during financial crunch

Top managers at the Montreal Transit Corporation, (MTC), or STM in French, are getting big raises for the 3rd straight year.

The average increase for this year was nearly four per cent and the average salary for the top dozen or so bosses is pegged at more than 200-thousand dollars.

The raises are based on recommendations from the MTC's general manager in the wake of performance targets.

The salary jumps come in the midst financial contraints.

A commuter who spoke with CTV News says salaries have increased, but not the quality of service.

"Not really the bus, but more the metro, the subway, like there's always a problem", he said.

Maybe he's right.

The MTC's yearly report says metro service interuptions due to mehcanical reasons soared more than 20 per cent last year over the year before.

Do any of these elites use public transportation? I think that they should use nothing but public transit getting to and from "work" and meetings.

scuse me but who the hell are they to once again receive massive raises when so many people live below the line of poverty. Tell me do they really need all that money or do they just need to be greedy?? I am so tired of this backwards business of getting raises. Homeless, unemployed, long term disability, what the heck are these people supposed to do when always told there is no money. Politicians vote their own raises, major CEO's usually decide amongst themselves to get raises and yet those who really need help never get and before any one decides to say they should find a job, maybe if you knew why people need help you would keep your mouths shut. I would take 1/10th of 1% of their damn salaries.

The people who could effect changes to this system will not.The reason being it would affect their own bottom line.Total disdain for the average citizen who carries the load. What a joke. The time has come for a revolt.
