A 32-year old driver from Athelstan will face charges of dangerous driving causing death and drinking and driving.

This after a 72-year old male pedestrian was killed Saturday evening after a violent high-speed accident in Huntingdon.

At around 7:00 P.M. a driver hit the pedestrian and three other parked vehicles on Quebec Route 138.

Sûrete du Québec spokesperson Claude Denis said the death of the pedestrian was confirmed on scene.

Denis said the suspect's car had been spotted by SQ officers earlier exceeding the speed limit.

The officers, who were driving in the opposite direction on Route 138, turned around to catch the suspect but lost sight of the driver.

Denis said there was no chase involving police.

The collision happened before police arrived.

The driver was taken to hospital where he underwent surgery.

Charges will be laid by telephone in hospital.

Why is it always the innocent who die and the garbage that lives?
Of course he also got immediate medical attention before the people waiting for hours in emergency.

@ric its unbelievable that this happens, so much lost.... The people that had their cars ruined- sure its just a "car" but consider- this is how ppl get to work and survive.. we lost our car in this incident and insurance is giving us such such a low low amount we cannot buy anything but the worst kind of junker, so then what? we are left to suffer and suffer for this. We had a very good used car with very low mileage. We were not even driving the car at the time! It was parked! Now we are left with constant worry of how we can survive paycheck to paycheck and get to work in an unreliable vehicle... All this aside, the worst part is an innocent man had to die, he was a good good man, an innocent person.... just crossing the street, as we all do. My Prayers and best wishes go to his family and friends. I think of you often, I wish there was something I could do, anything to help.

      very sad=/
