Why was Lachine's mayor's parking spot paved over — when the rest of the lot wasn't?

VIA YOURSTORY@CJAD.COM

A CJAD listener sent a photo through yourstory@cjad.com which shows the parking spot at Lachine's city hall belonging to mayor Claude Dauphin freshly paved, while the rest of the lot was not.

The listener, who wants to remain anonymous, professed to be "shocked" when he noticed the mayor's parking spot, adjacent to 32nd Ave., paved over, "seemingly without reason", while 32nd Ave. itself is filled with cracks and potholes.

But Dauphin's spokesperson, Denis Gaumond, says there was a reason for the repair, and it had nothing to do with preferential treatment or vanity of any kind.

The asphalt in the parking spot was cracked and uneven, to the point where the driver's side would collect rainwater which the driver would often step in — or slip on in the winter.

"It was hazardous, particularly for the winter," Gaumond said.

Incidentally, Gaumond says the rest of 32nd Ave. will get a fresh repaving job before the end of the fall.

If all of 32nd ave was already scheduled to be repaved BEFORE winter as stated above, then there was no danger of the puddle freezing.
I hope Lachine's taxpayers don't mind having to pay for this extra visit.

Well.....at least there's a sound and reasonable explanation......heaven forbid He steps in water on a rainy day....we can all sleep better now knowing He has been taken care of.......eh, of course it has nothing to do with vanity of any kind.

@Enzo You must be one of those people who does everything the government tells them to, and thinks that they're all honest.
I guarantee that if this was a secretary's parking spot, she'd still be stepping in a puddle.

Just tell him to back into the spot then....
Maybe if he actually had to deal with these things like all the citizens have to, he would have a better view of things from his ivory tower.

It's ok to repave the mayor's spot but leave the rest of the parking spots that are in worse shape as is and that users pay for whereas the mayor's spot is not generating any revenue??? Yes, I see nothing's changed in municipal politics. The taxpayers continue to pay while the politicians continue on their path of entitlement.
