Canadiens Hockey: The Centennial Season is Here
About the show
UP NEXT: HABS IN TORONTO SATURDAY NIGHT
ACTION GETS UNDERWAY AFTER THE 6 O'CLOCK NEWS
Robert Lang scored on his first shift with his first shot as a member of the Canadiens, beating Ryan Miller before this one was three minutes old. However, that was the only damage the Habs could do against Miller on this night. Thomas Vanek tied the game on Carey Price four minutes after the Lang goal.
Price was very good, but didn't get much offensive support, as the Canadiens looked flat following a five-day layoff. When this one was over, the Habs boarded a bus for Toronto and Saturday night's game against the Leafs with Jaroslav Halak already penciled in to get the start.

HABS VS. SABRES TONITE @ 7 ON CJAD 800
"I've warned him (about some unceremonial stickwork) so you'll see at game time," Koivu says with a mischeivous grin.
"I consider Saku my best friend in hockey," says Rivet, still surprised and thrilled that the Sabres have embraced him as their captain.
Rivet will likely have to try to cover Koivu in the Sabres' zone when Saku threatens offensively with linemates Guillaume Latendresse and Alex Tanguay.
"Can you beat Rivet?" I ask.
"At what?" counters the Canadiens' captain with another grin hinting at past mischeif.
"To the front of the net?"
"You'll see tonight!"
More with Rivet, Koivu, and Canadiens GM Bob Gainey coming up on the Bar B Barn Pregame Show at 7pm, right after the Ric Peterson Show.

Canadiens' fans can heave a sigh of relief. Team captain Saku Koivu revealed that he suffered a foot injury while practicing in Finland a couple of weeks ago. Koivu, taking part in physicals at the Bell Centre with the rest of his teammates, says he took a redirected puck off his right foot, which kept him off his skates up until about three days ago.Georges Laracque, acquired by the Canadiens during the off-season, reported for physicals at his optimum playing weight of 255 pounds. Laraque says he's excited for the Centennial Season to start.

Veteran Alex Kovalev reports for duty 10 pounds lighter. Kovalev, too, is looking forward to the Centennial Season. However, he adds that it's important for the team to remain focussed on the task at hand.

Should Damon Duval worry that Carey Price is as strong a kicker as he is a goalie?Full Blog
After the Sabres put the boots to the 21-year old for back-to-back goals on shootouts preventing the Canadiens from winning the opener of their 100th season, Price put the boots to the railing at the tunnel back to the Canadiens dressing room. It appeared to be a rare moment of wearing his heart on his goalie skate, but Price had nothing to be upset about and his seemingly rare display of emotion could only have been an indicator that his emotional fire is burning strong this season. Price will be the least of the Canadiens' concerns this season and he kept them in the game to force overtime in the first place.
