MEDIA BRIEFING, MAY 13, VICTORIA

WHAT:
The David Suzuki Foundation and the Pembina Institute will host a media briefing in Victoria, B.C., on May 13. Journalists will be briefed on the upcoming Western Climate Initiative meeting on May 21 where draft regulations to cap and reduce industrial greenhouse gas emissions (i.e. an emissions cap-and-trade system) will be released. The Western Climate Initiative is a regional effort to reduce emissions between several U.S. states and Canadian provinces, including B.C.
WHY:
The outcome of the Western Climate Initiative meeting on May 21 will be critically important. The draft regulations to cap and reduce industrial emissions will be a key part of B.C.’s action on climate change. The draft regulations will also be the first of their kind in North America and could form the blueprint for broader action on global warming throughout North America.
