Montreal mayor Gerald Tremblay's Union Montreal party is promising big plans for the city's 375th birthday in 2017, which will also coincide with the 50th anniversary of Expo 67 and the 150th anniversary of Confederation.

But most of the plans were already announced, including dismantling the Bonaventure Expressway that will help open up access to the Lachine Canal, and grouping the Planetarium,  Biodome, Botanical Garden, Insectarium and the new Université de Montreal biodiversity centre at one site.

The party also wants to create pedestrian promenades: sculpted green corridors in the city linking neighbourhoods, parks, the river and the mountain, something like the bike path but for pedestrians.

Its other plans: fixing up Parc Jean Drapeau and making it more of a tourist destination and year round park, by promoting the St. Lawrence River, the park's natural greenery and heritage,  the La Ronde amusement park, the Casino and the Gilles Villeneuve racetrack.

They also want to keep promoting and protecting Mont Royal and the St Michel Environmental Complex.
