Worry about folic acid link to cancer

There is fresh concern about a supplement commonly prescribed, especially to pregnant women.  It's folic acid and getting enough in pregnancy is important to prevent neural tube birth defects.  But research out of Norway shows that heart disease patients treated with a combination of folic acid and vitamin B-12 had a higher risk of cancer and death than patients given no vitamin treatment.   Previous studies showed high amounts of folic acid fueled cancer in genetically-predisposed people.  The study raises concerns that the addition of folic acid to certain foods could lead to unintended consequences.
