The city of Montreal is supporting a new provincial bill that's supposed to tighten the reigns on contracts.
But, at the same time, Alan DeSousa, who's representing the city at the National Assembly this morning, says it does not go far enough.
Bill 76 will force cities to publish all kinds of information about who's getting public contracts, and for how much.
The minister for municipal affairs new Liberal laws like the one he's putting through parliament are firm action.
But the VP of Montreal's executive committee, Alan DeSousa, does not know if this new city contract law would have stopped the water meter scandal.
He does say he appreciates the effort "but we also think that in some cases, we'll need the tools to be able to do it, the powers to be able to do it"
For example, he says, he would like to see a municipal ethics commissioner.
