Missing cabbie has family, Montreal police worried
A Montreal taxi driver appears to have vanished. And his family and Montreal police have reason to be concerned.
Mohammed Nehar-Belaid was starting his night shift Sunday, leaving his St. Laurent house at about 9:30.
The 64-year-old hasn't been seen since.
His family says he wouldn't just drop out of sight like that.
One troubling thing: someone has been using his credit cards.
Another troubling thing: Montreal police constable Annie Lemieux says his grey 2005 Ford Taurus with the Champlain Taxi sign was spotted at the Ultramar gas station on de l'Eglise in Verdun not long after he left home, but he wasn't driving.
"The car of the taxi driver was seen on a video surveillance and the person coming out of this taxi was not the man who was reported missing," Lemieux tells CJAD News.
Is it a case of foul play?
"It's still too early to say, I think the main thing is try to find this missing man," Lemieux said.
Nehar-Belaid usually picks up fares at the Hilton Hotel downtown or near the Côte Vertu metro.
He is 5'3", 170 pounds, with short black hair, a salt and pepper beard and wears glasses. He was wearing a black coat, a grey vest, a beige and blue plaid shirt, and black shoes.
The licence plate of his car is T11 F743. His Champlain Taxi sign number is 862.
