Montreal homeless man off to Olympics
A Montreal homeless man is heading off to the Olympics.
He goes by the name of Mario and he'll be in Vancouver along with other homeless people to protest what they call the pre-Olympic sanitizing of the city.
The Chorale sous les etoiles is made up of homeless Montrealers who not only sing for their supper but for their own therapy and socializing.
Mario is one of them and he's heading off to Vancouver - not to take in the Olympics but to protest along with other homeless folks. They're criticizing efforts to rid the streets of the homeless, druggies and hookers to make the city more presentable.
"I think the authorities want the world to see a clean country without social trouble," says choir director Pierre Anthian.
Mario has been saving for months and he's raised enough money for a return bus ticket. His choir gives him a proper sendoff when he leaves tonight.
