U of M criminologist champions death row inmate

A crime expert at the Universite de Montreal is going to bat for a convicted murder facing the death penalty in Texas. Laura Aubert believes Henry Skinner is innocent of the murders of his girlfriend and her two children in 1993. She says he deserves a stay of execution while DNA tests are conducted on some of the items found at the scene - tests that Texas authorities have refused to authorize. Other advocates for Skinner believe the real culprit might have been the girlfriend's uncle, a man now dead who had a violent past and had been harassing her.
