The Centre for Research Action on Race Relations is calling on ADQ leader Mario Dumont to 'clarify' statements on immigration he made in a newspaper interview over the weekend -- statements that suggested Quebec had reached its limit on welcoming new immigrants.

The Centre's Fo Niemi says the opposition leader should be promoting tolerance, and not fanning the flames of intolerance.

In the weekend interview Dumont said the number of immigrants shouldn't exceed Quebecers' capacity to welcome and integrate them, or else there'll be ghettoes created.

Niemi says, there's no evidence, scientific or otherwise, to support that claim, and adds all those statements really serve to do is help fuel the kinds of ethnic tensions seen in other societies.
