Users will try out transit smart cards

Some Montreal transit users will be trying out the system's new smart cards early next year.  They'll be like pay-as-you-go phone cards - you put money on them, use them to pay your transit fares and top them up as needed.  If the test run goes well, everyone will be able to get them next spring. 

Even as the Montreal Transit Corporation is planning service upgrades for January, its disgruntled maintenance workers are threatening job action. They say they'll boycott overtime unless they see some progress at the bargaining table. They met with management yesterday in the company of a conciliator.
