Tremblay, Marois appear before Bouchard-Taylor Commission on its final day
Fri, 2007-12-14 15:50.
Montreal mayor Gerald Tremblay and the leader of the Parti Quebecois, Pauling Marois, both appeared before the Bouchard-Taylor Commission on Reasonable Accommodation, both with somewhat different views of how we should treat newcomers to the province.Tremblay says immigrants are the quickest growing segment in the city and it must do all it can to accommodate new immigrants.
The PQ, on the other hand, says the province should be ensuring newcomers learn the language and culture of Quebec; it's the only way for Quebec, as she knows it, to survive. It's why the Quebecois Identity clause she constructed and wants installed in the Quebec charter is vital.
Both appeared on the final day of the Bouchard-Taylor Commission. It's report is due in March.
