20 years since abortion was legalized in Canada

It was 20 years ago today that the Supreme Court of Canada struck down the country's abortion laws as unconstitutional. Abortions became legal in 1988, all thanks to a Montreal doctor who wanted to save women from death or injury through back-alley abortions.
Dr. Henry Morgentaler says he still feels like it was a great achievement.
In the past ten years, somewhere between 27 and 29 thousand women per year have chosen to have abortions in the province of Quebec alone.
According the the Quebec Statistic Institute, for every 100 live births in 2005, 37 women chose to have an abortion. The Canadian average is 31.
