The Charest government wants to keep MP3 players, and computers, and TVs from piling up in landfills. It wants it all recycled, and it wants the product manufacturers to deal with it.

It'll launch a pilot project in the coming weeks.

The idea is for companies like Samsung, IBM, and Dell to put in place, and finance, a recycling program to take back their products when they're obsolete, instead of them ending up in the trash.

That means companies would have to setup a drop-off spot. Whether they team up to do it, or go it alone, is up to them.

Stats show no more than 6% of electronic devices are recycled.

The government wants that number up to 35% by year two after the legislation is applied.
