Fatal attraction in Laval
Laval police say they may have prevented a possible case of teen obsession from turning deadly.
Laval police spokeswoman Nathalie Lorraine says a 16-year-old girl was kidnapped yesterday by a suspect wielding an unloaded .22 calibre gun and a big kitchen knife and held for over two hours at his home, expressing dark thoughts of death and murder. The suspect: a 16-year-old boy.
"He did threaten her, threaten her family, to kill them. She really thought last night was the end."
The girl was released unharmed only when his mother returned home, the suspect getting the advice from a friend he phoned out of panic. He faces several charges and a psychiatric evaluation.
"He had a few friends, not that many, pretty isolated."
The suspect had a picture of the girl on his computer screensaver, police believing the suspect may have had an unhealthy infatuation with the girl who recognized the boy but otherwise had no relations with him.
Police also found notes the boy wrote mentioning death and killing.
Lorraine says the situation could have turned tragic and urges families and friends to watch out for warning signs.
"We're asking people to follow their feeling and if they think that there's a change in people's behaviour. not to hesitate to call us."
