A rally for animal rights legislation

A rally took place in Montreal, and in several other Canadian cities, to protest an animal cruelty bill which is poised to pass in Ottawa sometime next month.

Animal rights activists say bill S-203 doesn't do anything to deal with animal abuse in Canada -- or animal abusers -- it just raises their fines somewhat.

They're urging lawmakers to get behind a private members bill that's making its way through the Commons -- Bill C-373 -- which supposedly makes it easier to go after and punish animal abusers.
